Ingredients:
For the Double Smash Burgers:
1 lb ground beef (80/20 blend recommended)Β
Salt and pepper, to tasteΒ
4 slices of cheese (American or cheddar)Β
4 burger bunsΒ
Toppings: lettuce, tomato, pickles, ketchup, mustard, onions (as desired)Β
For the Chips:
2 large potatoes, cut into wedges or use frozen chipsΒ
2 tablespoons olive oilΒ
Salt and pepper, to tasteΒ
1 teaspoon paprika (optional)Β
Instructions:
1. Make the Chips:
If using fresh potatoes, preheat your oven to 425Β°F (220Β°C). Toss the potato wedges with olive oil, salt, pepper, and paprika. Spread them on a baking sheet in a single layer.
Bake for about 25-30 minutes, flipping halfway through, until golden and crispy.
If using frozen chips, follow the package instructions for cooking.
2. Prepare the Burgers:
While the chips are baking, heat a skillet or griddle over high heat.
Divide the ground beef into 8 equal portions (about 2 oz each). Roll into balls but do not compact them too much.
Place 2 balls in the skillet, spacing them apart. Use a spatula to press down firmly to smash them into thin patties. Season with salt and pepper.
3. Cook the Burgers:
Cook for about 2-3 minutes until the edges are crispy. Flip the patties and place a slice of cheese on each. Cook for an additional 1-2 minutes until the cheese is melted.
4. Assemble the Burgers:
Toast the burger buns lightly if desired. Place two patties on each bun and add your favorite toppings and condiments.
5. Serve:
Serve the burgers hot with a side of crispy chips.
